Product Review
This article explains the Product Reviews object and its components in Hygraph. Each product has reviews, which are displayed in multiple places, such as: At the top of the PDP the total reviews for that product are displayed under the product name and next to the buybox. Underneath the Product Short description at the top of the PDP the best recent review is displayed.
Whereas the main product review section is displayed at the bottom section of the PDP, where all product reviews are visible, as well as where customers create reviews.
All reviews left by customers on the PDP come to Hygraph in a draft form. When reviews are created this way, they will be automatically translated, when displayed on localized websites.
To view and publish Product Reviews for one of the web shops, in Hygraph navigate to the Product Reviews section, via the left menu pane select Content, and in the secondary left menu pane under the DEFAULT VIEWS section, select Product Reviews. There you will see a list overview of all existing Product Reviews for all products contained within tenants.
To share one review across SKUs, prefer Product Review Groups. You can still attach extra products on the review itself.
Review Quality Score & Quality Breakdown
Every product review gets an automatic Quality Score and a Quality Breakdown. This ensure the most helpful and trustworthy reviews are showcased on the product page, both as the highlighted testimonial near the top of the page.
Only reviews with a Quality Score of 0.70 or higher are eligible to appear as the highlighted testimonial and in the "Most interesting" reviews view. That's why a strong, specific review rises to the top, while a vague one-liner stays lower.
The score is also used in the reviews list lower on the product page. By default, this list is sorted by "Most interesting", which shows the high-quality reviews (score of 0.70 or higher) first. If a shopper switches the sort to "Most recent" or filters by star rating, all reviews are shown.
What is the Quality Score?
The Quality Score is a number between 0 and 1 that calculates how helpful and convincing a review is:
- ~1: detailed, credible, positive review that encourages a purchase.
- ~0.5: neutral or vague (e.g. "Great product") not very influential.
- ~0: detailed, credible, but negative review.
The score is automatically created by an AI model that analyses the review’s text, title and star rating.
What is the Quality Breakdown?
The Quality Breakdown is the "reasoning" behind the score. It splits the review into sub-dimensions; each also scored from 0 to 1:
| Dimension | What it looks at |
|---|---|
| Helpfulness | Does it give a buyer useful, practical insight? |
| Specificity | Include concrete details and experiences? |
| Credibility | Does it read as genuine and trustworthy? |
| Sentiment polarity | How positive or negative is the tone? |
| Sentiment alignment | Does the text match the star rating? |
| Recency | Is it recent or outdated? |
| Readability | Is it clear and easy to understand? |
| EFSA compliance | Does it avoid problematic health/food claims (EU rules)? |
The quality breakdown also includes a short one-line summary. The breakdown is stored in Hygraph for internal/support reference — shoppers don't see it on the website.
Where does the score come from?
There are two ways a review gets scored, and both are automatic for editors:
- When a new review is submitted on the website. The moment a shopper submits a review, it is scored automatically before it's saved. So new reviews already have a Quality Score and Breakdown when they reach you.
- A one-time backfill for existing reviews. For reviews that already existed before this feature, the team ran a script once to calculate scores for them. This is a technical, one-off task — not something content editors do.
Note: The score is generated at submission, not by manually re-publishing a review in Hygraph. If a review ever needs a score recalculated in bulk, that's a technical task for the dev team.

It is a permanent deletion that cannot be reversed.
Publish Reviews

Unpublished reviews are not shown and are not shared via groups. See Save, Publish & Schedule. Check claims on translated locales before publish, especially when sharing across tenants.
